UC NEWS: STOP TMT
Hawaiian Activists Speak At UCSB Town Hall, Urge UC Not to Move Forward With Telescope Construction
December 7, 2019 at 7:42 pm by Max Abrams and Jackson Guilfoil
Nearly six months after it became publicized that Chancellor Henry T. Yang is the chair of the board of governors of the Thirty Meter Telescope in Hawaii — a project known equally for its scientific ambition and disputed construction on a mountain sacred to Native Hawaiians — two campus groups invited indigenous Hawaiian activists to speak about their opposition to the project during a town hall on Tuesday evening.

New SoundCloud Account featuring Mana, "Hawaii Loa Tu Like Katou"
Liko now has a SoundCloud Account! Look out for historic recordings and more!
We begin with this monumental Niihau version of Hawaii Loa Tu Like Katou off of Liko's historic Surfin' Bay Blues album (a crucial piece of Kauaʻi music history), sung by the late, great Mana.
| Original single, 2001 |
Mana was a part of a circle of musicians that included Java, aka "Kamala Kamala", Uncle Willie Yadao from Makaweli, a paniolo who played bass with Gabby Pahinui in the old days, Wendell "Jumbo" Fu, and Uncle Herman Kane of Hanamaulu. Their voices can all be heard on the "Surfing Bay Blues", available on Amazon or CD Baby.
