The US Department of Interior was, to say the least, overwhelmed by the strength of Kanaka Maoli passion for full Independence. One of the major highlights of the first hearing at the State Capitol was Liko Martin's Red Ribbons song, performed with Laulani Teale and assistance from Palani Vaughn and others, who highlighted the Queen's official protest against US Annexation, made in Washington DC in 1897.
